Portland State men’s tennis players Aarjun Pandit and Maas Schotanus received postseason recognition on Apr. 22, ending a five-year award drought for the Vikings. Pandit was named to the Second Team All-Big Sky singles, while he and Schotanus earned honorable mention in doubles.
The awards are significant for Portland State as they mark the program’s first all-conference honors since 2021. The recognition highlights both individual achievement and progress within the team under head coach Vetu Mam.
Pandit, a freshman from Gurgaon, India, is the first freshman in program history to earn All-Big Sky singles honors. Earlier this season, he also became the first Viking freshman named Big Sky Player of the Week. He finished his debut collegiate dual season with a 7-7 singles record overall and went 3-4 against conference opponents. Playing at No. 1 singles, Pandit’s .583 win percentage ranks fifth in program history among players with at least ten matches at that position.
Pandit teamed up with sophomore Schotanus for just five matches late in the season but made an immediate impact. The pair played four matches at No. 1 doubles, going undefeated (2-0) in completed matches and helping secure crucial doubles points against Idaho and Idaho State.
Head coach Vetu Mam led a young squad to six wins during the season, finishing one victory short of qualifying for the Big Sky Tournament with a final conference record of 2-5.
The broader significance of these awards lies in their potential to boost morale within Portland State’s men’s tennis program after several seasons without postseason accolades.
