Starting March 2, access to U.S. 101 from SE 48th Place in Lincoln City’s Taft District will be closed for up to three weeks. The closure is necessary for the construction of new curb ramps at both corners of the intersection, according to a statement from the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT). SE 48th Place is described as a very narrow street, and the project requires closing one lane on SE 48th Place and the right lane of northbound U.S. 101.

During this period, travelers can still go east onto SE 48th Place using the open single lane. However, westbound access from SE 48th Place to U.S. 101 will not be available. Drivers will need to follow a signed detour that directs them left onto SE Inlet Avenue, right onto SE Jetty Avenue, then another right onto SE 51st Street before reaching the traffic signal at U.S. 101.

Business and parking access in the area are expected to remain open throughout construction. ODOT notes that this work is weather dependent and schedules may change; however, access to and from SE 48th Place is expected to reopen by spring break.

A spokesperson for ODOT provided a safety reminder: “While you may not always see people working in a coned-off area, it doesn’t mean it’s not an active work zone.” The agency urges drivers not to move cones or park in coned-off areas for their own safety and that of workers.

Other impacts include daytime construction Monday through Thursday with some Friday or night work as needed, potential delays with flaggers directing traffic, and construction noise due to equipment such as concrete saws.

ODOT also reminds motorists that fines double in all Oregon work zones regardless of whether workers or signs are present.
