Construction crews have begun upgrading curb ramps along Dorion Avenue in Pendleton, part of ongoing efforts to improve accessibility in eastern Oregon. Work started at 12th Street on the south side and will move toward downtown before switching to the north side. Emigrant Avenue is scheduled for similar upgrades later this summer.
During construction, drivers should expect short-term road closures between 2nd and 12th streets. Daytime work will take place Monday through Thursday, with lane shifts and occasional closures managed by flaggers. Businesses will remain open throughout the project, and pedestrian access will be maintained.
Curb ramp improvements have already been completed at more than 30 intersections along U.S. 395 (Southgate) and OR 11, though additional work is planned for March at the southeast corner of 14th Street and Court Avenue.
Looking ahead, Phase 4 of the project is planned for summer 2027–2028, with Phase 5 following later in 2027 into 2028.
The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) has also released its draft Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) for public review and comment. The STIP outlines how state and federal funds will be used from 2027 to 2030 on transportation projects across Oregon, including public transit improvements, new bike paths and sidewalks, road repaving, bridge maintenance, and safety upgrades. Members of the public can explore proposed projects via an online open house until March 20 or submit comments by March 31 through the open house or by emailing ODOT.STIP@odot.oregon.gov.
“Your input helps shape Oregon’s transportation future. This is your opportunity to weigh in on projects that impact your community,” according to information from ODOT.
Questions about these projects can be directed to Vicki Moles, Community Affairs Specialist for ODOT Region 5.
