Crews may begin setting up a work zone for maintenance repairs on the Astoria-Megler Bridge as early as next week, according to an announcement from the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT). The planned repairs involve fixing and replacing damaged bridge bearings. These components allow the bridge to move and flex slightly in response to temperature changes, traffic, and other factors, helping prevent additional stress or damage.
During the project, daytime single lane closures will be in effect Monday through Thursday and until noon on Fridays. Flaggers will be present to help direct traffic. A temporary work platform will be installed under the bridge. ODOT warns that construction noise and delays are expected during this period.
“While most of the work will happen below the bridge, we’ll need daily single lane closure for the safety of our crews and the traveling public,” ODOT stated.
The schedule for these activities may change depending on conditions. For updates on construction progress and traffic impacts, travelers are encouraged to visit TripCheck.com or call 5-1-1 for 24/7 road conditions and alerts.
Drivers are reminded that fines double in all Oregon work zones regardless of whether workers or signs are present. ODOT urges motorists to slow down, pay attention in work zones, and move over when possible.
