Work on the Astoria-Megler Bridge is expected to begin in 2027, with plans to replace a section of the driving surface and bridge rails. The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) is inviting community members to learn more about the project through both in-person and online events.
An in-person open house will be held at the ODOT Astoria office on January 21, 2026. Community members can speak directly with project team representatives between 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m., or from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., at 350 W Marine Drive, Astoria, OR. Accessible parking will be available at the front of the building. Accommodations for people with disabilities and alternative formats for materials are offered upon request by contacting Paul Welch at 503-302-8926 or using the statewide relay service at 7-1-1.
For those unable to attend in person, an online open house will be accessible through January 25. The online platform allows participants to learn about planned construction work, anticipated road closures and detours, answers to frequently asked questions, ways to stay updated on project progress, and opportunities to ask questions or provide feedback.
Information about other ongoing road projects in the area can be found on ODOT’s construction webpage, which features an interactive map showing current work locations.
ODOT urges drivers to exercise caution in work zones by slowing down and moving over when possible. The agency reminds motorists that fines double in all Oregon work zones regardless of whether workers or signs are present.
Travelers seeking real-time travel conditions can visit TripCheck.com for updates on road status, traffic cameras, and weather information across Oregon.
Mindy McCartt serves as Public Information Officer for this project and can be reached at 503-507-6045 for additional questions. Translation services and accommodations under ADA Title II or Civil Rights Title VI are available by calling TTY (800) 735-2900 or using Oregon Relay Service: 7-1-1.
