Work on the Astoria-Megler Bridge is scheduled to begin in 2027, according to the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT). The project will focus on replacing a section of the driving surface and bridge rails.

Community members are invited to learn more about the plans at an in-person event on January 21, 2026, at the ODOT Astoria office. The event will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and again from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at 350 W Marine Drive, Astoria, OR 97103. Accessible parking is available at the front of the building.

Accommodations for people with disabilities and alternative formats for materials can be requested by contacting Paul Welch at 503-302-8926 or using the statewide relay service at 7-1-1 with at least 48 hours’ notice.

For those unable to attend in person, an online open house will be available through January 25. The online resource provides information about planned work, expected road closures and detours during construction, answers to frequently asked questions, updates on how to stay informed, and opportunities for public feedback.

The community can also view ongoing road projects in their area through ODOT’s construction webpage and interactive map.

ODOT reminds drivers to exercise caution in work zones by slowing down and moving over when possible. “Always drive safely, watch for construction signs and workers,” the agency states. Fines are doubled in all Oregon work zones regardless of whether workers or signs are present.

Travelers seeking up-to-date road conditions can use TripCheck.com, which offers real-time travel information including traffic cameras and weather updates to help plan safe trips throughout the year (https://tripcheck.com).

For questions about the project or accommodations related to ADA Title II or Civil Rights Title VI, contact Mindy McCartt, Public Information Officer, at 503-507-6045 or call TTY (800) 735-2900. Translation services are available upon request.

ODOT emphasizes its commitment to non-discrimination: “We do not discriminate on the basis of disability in admission or access to our programs, services, activities, hiring and employment practices.” The department identifies itself as an EEO/AA Employer.
