Work on the Astoria-Megler Bridge is set to begin in mid-November, with crews expected in the area as early as the beginning of the month to prepare the work zone for upcoming maintenance repairs. The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) announced that construction activities will mainly occur during daylight hours from Monday through Thursday, and until noon on Fridays.

During construction, drivers should expect single lane closures managed by flaggers, a temporary work platform under the bridge, increased noise levels, and possible delays. While most work will take place beneath the bridge structure, daily single lane closures are planned to ensure safety for both workers and motorists.

ODOT encourages residents to stay informed about this and other projects by visiting their U.S. 101 Astoria-Megler Bridge Repairs Webpage as well as their main construction webpage, which features an interactive map of ongoing roadwork.

Drivers are reminded to exercise caution in all work zones by slowing down and moving over when possible. “Imagine this is where you work! Always drive safely, watch for construction signs and workers.” ODOT also notes that fines double in all Oregon work zones regardless of whether workers or signs are present.

For questions about the project, Mindy McCartt serves as Public Information Officer and can be reached at 503-507-6045. ODOT provides translation and interpretation services upon request through TTY (800) 735-2900 or Oregon Relay Service at 7-1-1.

To monitor real-time road conditions and traffic alerts during construction, travelers can visit TripCheck.com or call 5-1-1.

ODOT is also recruiting for positions essential to state services; interested individuals can apply at ODOTJobs.com.

“We do not discriminate on the basis of disability in admission or access to our programs, services, activities, hiring and employment practices. ODOT is an EEO/AA Employer.”
