Repair work is set to begin on two bridges over Interstate 5 near Creswell and Cottage Grove following recent damage from vehicle strikes. The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) announced that the affected bridges are located near mileposts 183 and 169.

Crews will conduct repairs at night, with work scheduled from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., Sunday through Thursday. Drivers traveling through the area should expect shifts in traffic patterns within the I-5 work zones, as well as construction noise and potential delays. Work is expected to start on September 15 and continue until mid-October, though ODOT notes that some activities may be delayed due to weather conditions.

ODOT highlighted that while its overall funding situation remains challenging, most projects—including these bridge repairs—are moving forward because they are financed by specific state or federal programs. These funds are legally restricted for project development and cannot be used for general maintenance or daily operations. Additional details about ODOT’s funding challenges can be found on their website.

The agency reminds drivers to exercise caution in work zones: “Pay attention in work zones, slow down and move over – imagine this is where you work. Always drive safely, watch for construction signs and workers.” They also note that fines double in all Oregon work zones regardless of whether workers or signage are present.

Public Information Officer Mindy McCartt is available for questions regarding the project at 503-507-6045.

Accommodations for translation or interpretation services related to this project can be requested by calling TTY (800) 735-2900 or using the statewide Oregon Relay Service at 7-1-1.

ODOT states: “We do not discriminate on the basis of disability in admission or access to our programs, services, activities, hiring and employment practices. ODOT is an EEO/AA Employer.”
