Construction is set to begin in early February on the Devils Lake Fork Bridge along OR 6, located near milepost 32. The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) will carry out repairs and preservation work on this bridge, which crosses the Wilson River.

During construction, crews will be active during daytime hours. Single lane closures are planned with an automated flagging device managing traffic through the work zone from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and from 7 a.m. to noon on Fridays. Most activities will take place under the bridge, but travelers should expect noise and delays throughout the project period. ODOT expects to complete the work in 2026.

The bridge will be subject to weight restrictions for the duration of construction. Semitrucks and heavy vehicles must adhere to permit weight tables 2 through 5. Drivers can find more information about these requirements by reviewing ODOT’s Commerce and Compliance Division’s Permittable Vehicle Dimensions and Weight Tables webpage.

Automated flagger assistant devices will be used at the site. ODOT advises drivers: “Stop when the light is red and the flag is down. Wait for the arm to be fully up before you start moving. Drive carefully when the light is flashing orange and the flag is up.” The agency also reminds motorists that “there is a person nearby controlling the automated flagger assistant devices,” ensuring smooth traffic flow.

The Devils Lake Fork Bridge serves as an important route for both tourism and freight between Portland and coastal areas. Planned repairs include rust removal, replacement of worn or damaged bolts and rivets, and application of new paint to strengthen and preserve its condition.

Access for pedestrians—including those with disabilities—will remain available through or around work zones.

Questions about this project can be directed to Mindy McCartt, Public Information Officer at ODOT, at 503-507-6045.

ODOT reminds drivers: “Pay attention in work zones, slow down and move over – imagine this is where you work. Always drive safely, watch for construction signs and workers.” Fines double in all Oregon work zones regardless of whether workers or signs are present.
