A letter to the editor published on Apr. 19 expresses strong support for John Barofsky, who is running for Eugene City Council Ward 3. The author, Joy Marshall, describes Barofsky as a dedicated community member with a long history of public service in Eugene.

Marshall said she has been active in the community for 35 years and closely follows local government. She wrote that “we are very fortunate to have John Barofsky running for Eugene City Council Ward 3.”

Barofsky’s experience includes volunteering on his neighborhood association, serving on the city budget committee, participating in the Eugene Planning Commission, and working with the EWEB board. Marshall said these roles demonstrate his qualifications to help lead the city.

The letter also highlights Barofsky’s involvement in creating affordable housing through work with the Eugene Affordable Housing Trust Fund Advisory Committee and supporting restoration efforts after the Holiday Farm Fire as an EWEB commissioner. He has also worked to improve public safety by bringing together stakeholders and developing programs such as summer activities for youth and overnight shelter options for vulnerable residents.

Marshall emphasized that “John is a leader, a listener, a doer.” She noted endorsements from Peter DeFazio, Kaarin Knudson, Val Hoyle, herself as a community organizer, and others.

The letter concludes by urging voters to support Barofsky: “We need John Barofsky on City Council.”
