Cornelius Pass Road, also known as OR 127 and maintained by the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT), will be closed for chip sealing work on August 5 and 6. The closure will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.

The pavement preservation project aims to extend the lifespan of the road surface. During the closure, travelers who need to drive the entire length of Cornelius Pass Road between U.S. 26 and U.S. 30 are advised to use U.S. Interstate 405 as an alternative route to avoid delays.

For local access, only the section from U.S. 30 to NW Skyline Boulevard will remain open, with flaggers present to assist traffic. The area from Skyline Boulevard to the south end of Old Cornelius Pass Road will be fully closed, with a detour available via Old Cornelius Pass Road.

Drivers are encouraged to check TripCheck.com before traveling in Oregon for updates, as construction schedules may change.

In a statement regarding funding challenges facing ODOT, the agency said: “Due to ongoing funding challenges, we are delaying or canceling some planned maintenance activities, but this pavement preservation work will be done as scheduled. ODOT is experiencing a significant and immediate funding shortfall that is resulting in staff layoffs and reduced capacity across the agency. Without new revenue or flexibility in spending, ODOT is forced to make deep cuts and lay off hundreds of people to stay within its budget.”

ODOT continues to face financial constraints that have led to reductions in maintenance activity and staffing levels across the agency.
