Dale Gaubatz named Vice Provost for Strategic Enrollment and Student Engagement at PSU

Portland State University announced on Apr. 22 that Dale Gaubatz has been appointed as the Vice Provost for Strategic Enrollment and Student Engagement, a new position within the Office of Academic Affairs. This role will oversee both enrollment management and student affairs, aiming to attract, retain, and graduate a diverse student body.

The creation of this position highlights Portland State University’s commitment to improving student success by integrating recruitment, financial aid, and support services. The university seeks to build a collaborative approach that benefits students throughout their academic journey.

Gaubatz comes to Portland State from the University at Albany, State University of New York (SUNY), where he led enrollment efforts. He brings over 25 years of experience in higher education with expertise in connecting various aspects of university operations to improve outcomes for students. He has also held leadership roles at the Colorado School of Mines.

During his interviews, he conveyed a dedication to building a resilient enrollment culture that empowers teams, connects financial aid strategy to student success, and prioritizes the full student journey from first contact through graduation and beyond.”

Gaubatz holds a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Texas Tech University and a Master’s degree in Administration and Organizational Development from the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio. He enjoys outdoor activities such as snow skiing and beach combing as well as watching movies. Gaubatz is also noted as being the proud father of Trae and Liz.

He will begin his new role at Portland State University on July 1.
