Construction on the U.S. 101 Depoe Bay Bridge is set to begin next week, with crews starting preparation work in the area this week for preservation efforts.
Most of the construction activity will occur beneath the bridge. Crews are scheduled to work during daytime hours from Monday through Thursday. Lane and shoulder closures may be necessary, and drivers should anticipate construction noise and possible delays.
In the coming weeks, temporary signs will be installed, along with scaffolding and work platforms under the bridge. The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) urges motorists to exercise caution and watch for workers in the area.
The project aims to address issues caused by exposure to harsh winds and saltwater. Planned maintenance includes reapplying protective coating, making minor concrete repairs, and repairing the existing bridge rail.
“Pay attention in the work zone, slow down and move over – imagine this is where you work. Always drive safely, watch for construction signs and workers,” states ODOT. “Remember that fines double in all Oregon work zones, whether workers and signs are present or not.”
Pedestrian access—including for those with disabilities—will remain available through or around active work zones during construction.
For more information about this project or other ongoing roadwork in local communities, residents can visit ODOT’s interactive map online or consult TripCheck.com for real-time travel updates and road conditions.
Questions about the project can be directed to Mindy McCartt, Public Information Officer at 503-507-6045.
ODOT also notes its commitment to non-discrimination: “We do not discriminate on the basis of disability in admission or access to our programs, services, activities, hiring and employment practices. ODOT is an EEO/AA Employer.”
