Douglas County commissioners approved an Emergency Drought Order on May 3, following a request from Public Works Director Scott Adams.
The order highlights the ongoing and severe drought conditions affecting residents, agriculture, livestock, and increasing the risk of wildfires. The county’s action reflects growing concern about water shortages and environmental impacts in the region.
With this declaration, Douglas County has become the tenth county in Oregon to issue a drought emergency this year. The county has also formally requested that the Governor declare a statewide drought emergency.
While there are currently no residential water restrictions in place, officials are urging residents to conserve water as dry conditions continue.
The broader implication is that more counties may follow suit if weather patterns do not improve. Residents are encouraged to stay informed about potential changes and conservation measures.
