Crews will conduct drilling activities on sidewalks in downtown Pendleton on November 17 and 18 as part of preparations for the Eastern Oregon ADA curb ramp upgrades, Phase 4. The work is focused on sidewalk corners between Court Avenue and Frazer Avenue, stretching from Southwest Second Street to Southeast Second Street.
According to the announcement, travel lanes and parking are expected to remain open, but there may be temporary sidewalk detours in some narrow areas. Pedestrians will still be able to navigate through or around the work zones safely.
The drilling process involves using water-cooled, hand-held equipment to bore about six inches into the concrete sidewalks. A scope camera will then be used to examine materials or any voids beneath the surface. Drilling will not occur over known basements. Each location is expected to take less than an hour, and holes will be patched immediately after drilling.
“This work is part of a larger effort to bring curb ramps in Pendleton and across Region 5 up to current ADA standards, improving safety and access for everyone,” according to project information.
Phase 4 construction is planned to begin in spring 2027. The overall project aims to enhance accessibility by upgrading curb ramps throughout Pendleton and other areas in Region 5. More details about the project can be found at the Eastern Oregon 2024-2027 ADA curb ramps, phase 4 webpage.
