Emma Stolte and Jack Macdonald broke their own records during the Bryan Clay Invitational held April 17-18 in Azusa, California. Stolte improved her overall record in the women’s 1,500 meters with a time of 4:20.17, surpassing her previous mark by over a second. Macdonald set a new freshman record in the men’s 200 meters, finishing in 21.17 seconds.

The performances are significant as they demonstrate ongoing progress for both athletes this season. Stolte’s time in the 1,500 meters is also below last year’s NCAA West First Round qualifying standard of 4:20.38, increasing her chances to qualify for multiple events after already posting a strong result in the women’s 5k.

Macdonald’s run made him the fastest Viking this century at that distance and placed him third all-time for Portland State behind Ryon Edwards and John Gentry. He had previously set his freshman record at the PNW Invite on March 20 with a time of 21.46 seconds.

Other notable results included Farhan Ibrahim moving up to sixth on Portland State’s freshman top ten list for the men’s 1,500 meters with a personal best of 3:57.17 and Dillon Brost recording his collegiate best in the men’s 200 meters at 22.08 seconds. The relay team of Brost, Macdonald, Isaiah Cadengo, and Beckett Stolp posted their second-best season time in the men’s 4×100-meter relay at 41.73 seconds.

In field events, Ocean Rideout won her flight in women’s long jump with a personal best of 18-04.50 (5.60m), while Akanesi Latu-Alves also achieved a new personal mark to win her flight with a jump of 17-09 (5.41m).

Meanwhile at Hayward Field during the Oregon Team Invitational on April 18, Alison Calvin-Stupfel cleared a seasonal-best height of five feet and half an inch (1.54m) as she continues recovery from surgery.
