Eugene Springfield Fire will carry out a training burn on April 15 at 3740 Virginia Avenue in Springfield, starting at 9 a.m. and continuing until about 6 p.m.

The exercise is part of ongoing efforts to reduce wildfire risk and improve emergency response skills. The event will include burning piles as part of the training activities.

A Northwest Youth Corps crew will also take part, offering hands-on learning for participants focused on wildfire mitigation practices.

Residents may notice smoke in the area during the day. People with respiratory conditions are encouraged to take precautions such as closing windows and staying indoors if smoke is present.

Forecasted rain is expected to help minimize and disperse any smoke impacts from the training.
