Go Raw LLC has announced a voluntary recall of one lot of its Quest Cat Food Chicken Recipe Freeze Dried Nuggets. The recall applies to 10-ounce bags with the lot code C25288 and a best by date of October 15, 2027. According to the company, this action is being taken because the product may have low levels of thiamine (Vitamin B1).
Thiamine is an essential nutrient for cats. Cats that consume diets low in thiamine over time can develop a deficiency. Early symptoms may include decreased appetite, salivation, vomiting, failure to grow, and weight loss. In more advanced cases, neurological signs such as ventroflexion of the neck, mental dullness, vision changes, unsteady walking, circling, falling, and seizures can occur.
The company said: “Contact your veterinarian immediately if your cat is displaying any of these symptoms. If treated promptly, thiamine deficiency is typically reversible.”
The recalled product was distributed nationwide through retail stores in Colorado, Utah, Washington, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Michigan, California, Texas and Illinois. It comes in zip-lock beige packages with a purple stripe and bears UPC 6-91730-18103-1.
So far there has been one confirmed report of illness associated with this product. The affected cat received veterinary care and recovered. The recall covers only this single lot.
Go Raw LLC stated: “This recall was initiated after the company received a report of illness potentially associated with the product. Product from the affected lot was submitted for testing by the treating veterinarian, and results indicated thiamine (B1) levels below the required amounts for a feline diet. The company conducted additional testing and determined that the lot may not meet thiamine requirements. The company has already implemented corrective actions to prevent this issue from recurring.”
Consumers who have purchased this specific product should stop feeding it to their cats and return it to where they bought it for a full refund. Questions can be directed to Go Raw LLC at 801-432-7478 between 9 am and 4 pm Mountain Time on weekdays.
