Governor Kotek announced on April 15 that she is accepting applications to fill the upcoming vacancy for Lake County District Attorney, following the planned resignation of Paul J. Charas.
The appointment will be made according to Article V, Section 16 of the Oregon Constitution and state law. The Governor’s Office is encouraging candidates from a variety of backgrounds and experiences to apply for the position.
Applicants must complete a District Attorney Interest Form, which differs from forms used in judicial vacancies. The form can be accessed online, and completed applications should be addressed to Richard A. Lane, General Counsel at the Office of the Governor. Submissions are accepted by email only and must be sent to Shevaun Gutridge at shevaun.gutridge@oregon.gov by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, May 8.
According to Oregon law, candidates must be admitted to practice in the Supreme Court of Oregon at the time of appointment (ORS 8.630 and ORS 8.640). For questions about the process, interested parties may contact Shevaun Gutridge via email or call (503) 378-6246.
The selection process aims to ensure continuity in leadership within Lake County’s legal system as officials work toward appointing a new district attorney.
