A Guatemalan man living unlawfully in the United States appeared in federal court after being charged with assaulting federal officers. Alvaro Carrillo, 32, faces a criminal complaint for allegedly assaulting a federal officer.

Court documents state that on November 11, 2025, border patrol agents working with Immigration and Customs Enforcement conducted a traffic stop on a silver Saturn sedan. Officers identified themselves to Carrillo and tried to remove him from the vehicle when he did not comply with their commands. Carrillo then drove away from the scene and struck the agents’ vehicle during his attempt to flee.

After a pursuit lasting more than ten minutes, Carrillo lost control of his car and hit a concrete curb. He exited the vehicle, assumed what authorities described as a fighting position, and tried to escape on foot. Officers apprehended him after about thirty yards; during the arrest, Carrillo resisted.

Carrillo made his initial appearance before a U.S. Magistrate Judge in Portland and was ordered detained pending further proceedings.

The case is being investigated by Homeland Security Investigations and prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Oregon.

“A criminal complaint is only an accusation of a crime, and a defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty,” according to officials.
