Work to remove trees damaged by the Rowena Fire will begin on October 6 along Interstate 84. Drivers traveling between milepost 75 and Exit 82, from just west of Rowena to The Dalles, should expect single-lane closures in both directions throughout October.

The contractor, Pomeroy Tree Care LLC, will start work on the eastbound side at milepost 75 and proceed east toward Exit 82 before switching to the westbound side and returning to milepost 75. The project is scheduled for completion by October 30.

Lane and shoulder closures are planned from Monday through Thursday, between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. The specific location of the work zone will change daily as crews progress along the route. Motorists are advised to use caution in these areas and watch for workers and equipment.

“Expect delays; factor in extra time for your commute,” according to officials overseeing the project.

The Rowena Fire began on June 11 and burned about 3,600 acres between Mosier and The Dalles. More information about recovery efforts can be found at the Wasco County website: Rowena Fire Recovery.
