The Historic Columbia River Highway reopened between Larch Mountain Road and Vista House on March 17 after a landslide closed the route just east of Larch Mountain Road on March 11.

The reopening allows travelers to once again access Vista House and the Portland Women’s Forum from both directions. The closure had disrupted travel in the area, prompting crews to monitor the active slide zone, inspect the hillside, and remove debris before safely reopening the highway.

Repairs to a concrete stone wall and additional work below the roadway are planned for the coming months. During this period, travelers should expect flaggers and intermittent traffic control when work is underway. The Oregon Department of Transportation said it will provide updates as schedules are finalized.

Drivers are advised to continue using caution in the area and remain alert for any remaining debris. The department emphasized that safety remains a priority as further repairs are completed.

The reopening marks an important step toward restoring normal travel along this section of the historic highway while longer-term repairs proceed.
