Crews from the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) will begin repairs on a rockfall fence along OR 224 starting February 17, following damage caused by severe storms in December 2025. The work site is located approximately halfway between Estacada and Ripplebrook.

During the repair period, traffic on OR 224 will be limited to a single lane controlled by flaggers during daylight hours on weekdays. The highway will remain fully open at night and on weekends. ODOT estimates that the repairs could take up to three months to finish.

The December rainstorms triggered several landslides that damaged the protective rock-catching fence situated high above the roadway. In addition to repairing the fence, crews will also remove loose rocks from the cliff face to help prevent future rockfalls.

“It will take some time to complete the work due to the location of the fence,” said ODOT Engineer Jason McNeil. “The fence is a few hundred feet up a steep rock face and taken apart to repair.”

ODOT advises travelers that road work schedules may change depending on weather conditions. Motorists are encouraged to check Tripcheck.com for updated travel information before planning their trips.
