The Oregon Department of Motor Vehicles announced on April 15 that the Lincoln City DMV office will temporarily close for several months due to operational and staffing reasons. The closure at 4422 NE Devils Lake Blvd, Suite 1, will begin April 20 and is expected to last until June 29.

This temporary closure affects local residents who rely on in-person DMV services. Officials say the pause is necessary to maintain service quality once the office reopens.

“A number of personnel changes happened simultaneously at our Lincoln City and Newport DMV offices,” said Chris Crabb, DMV Public Information Officer. “While not ideal, this temporary pause will allow us to ensure we continue delivering high-quality service when we reopen June 30.”

During the closure, the lead worker from Lincoln City will join Newport’s two remaining full-time staff members at the Newport location at 158 NE 5th Street until new employees are recruited and trained. The Newport office hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

When it reopens on June 30, the Lincoln City office will resume regular hours: Tuesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with a daily break from noon to 1:30 p.m.

Class C drive tests remain available through a third-party tester in Newport during this period.

DMV officials note that while staffing levels have remained nearly unchanged for about twenty-five years due to legal limits on hiring, Oregon’s population has grown by over eight hundred thousand people in that time—all requiring access to DMV services.

Customers are encouraged by officials to use DMV2U for more than thirty online transactions as an alternative during the closure period.
