The Oregon DMV office in Madras, located at 249 S.W. Third St., is closed today due to staffing shortages, according to the Oregon Department of Transportation.

Officials explained that while the state’s population has increased by 800,000 over the past 25 years, staffing levels at the DMV have remained about the same. This situation sometimes requires temporary closures of offices when there are not enough employees available. “We often have to temporarily close an office if we don’t have enough people to staff it. When possible, we shift employees from nearby offices, but that isn’t always an option,” a spokesperson stated.

Customers who visit without appointments may face longer wait times and might not receive same-day service. The DMV advises checking office status before visiting and recommends making appointments or using alternative options such as online services through DMV2U, self-serve Express Kiosks in Fred Meyer stores for registration renewals, or mail-in transactions.

For more information or updates on office status and available services, customers can visit oregondmv.com or call 503-945-5000.
