Construction is set to begin next month on the westbound OR 126B Main Street Bridge over the Willamette River in Springfield. The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) announced that the project will involve repairs, joint replacements, repaving a section on the east side of the bridge, and adding a bike ramp.
According to ODOT, crews will start setting up the work zone in November. Construction activities are expected to take place mostly at night and will require lane and shoulder closures throughout the duration of the project. Flaggers will be present to direct traffic during setup, and there may be construction noise and delays. Businesses in the area will remain open during construction.
A full closure of the Main Street Bridge is planned for about three weeks, starting as early as December 2025. During this period, both directions of traffic will be rerouted to use the South A Street Bridge. Temporary connections and new traffic patterns will be implemented to accommodate westbound traffic and ensure safety at the roundabout. Pedestrians and bicyclists will also use the South A Street Bridge during this time.
Local freight and passenger vehicles can use either South A Street Bridge or detour routes via Pioneer Parkway and OR 126. Larger freight and oversized vehicles are advised to use OR 126 / Bob Straub Parkway to bypass the closure.
ODOT encourages drivers to pay attention in work zones, slow down, move over for workers, and observe posted signs, noting that fines double in all Oregon work zones regardless of whether workers or signs are present.
