Multnomah County announced on April 21 that the deadline for voter registration and party affiliation changes for the May 19, 2026 Primary Election is Tuesday, April 28.

The announcement highlights the importance of timely voter registration and party selection due to Oregon’s closed primary system. Voters must be registered with either the Democratic or Republican parties by the deadline to participate in those primaries. Those not affiliated with a major party will receive a nonpartisan ballot.

Voters can register online at oregonvotes.gov using an Oregon Department of Motor Vehicles-issued driver’s license or state ID card number, or the last four digits of their Social Security Number if they do not have an Oregon ID. Paper registration cards are also available at U.S. Post Offices, Multnomah County Library locations, the Duniway-Lovejoy Elections Building in Portland, and starting April 23 at the Voting Center Express in Gresham.

The Voting Center Express opens Thursday, April 23 inside the Multnomah County East Building at 600 N.E. 8th St., Gresham. It will provide services such as ballot replacement, voter registration updates, assistance for voters with disabilities or language needs, and general election help through Election Day on May 19. The main Elections Office in Portland remains open as well.

Both locations offer regular hours from Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., with extended hours leading up to Election Day: May 13-15 (8 a.m.-7 p.m.), May 16 (10 a.m.-2 p.m.), May 18 (8 a.m.-7 p.m.), and Election Day itself from 7 a.m.-8 p.m.

Voters are encouraged to check that their address and name are current on their voter record via oregonvotes.gov/myvote or by submitting an updated paper form. Multnomah County also offers multilingual Track Your Ballot alerts via text, email or voice messages by signing up at multnomah.ballot trax.net.
