Mussel harvesting has resumed along the northern Oregon coast, according to an announcement from the Oregon Department of Agriculture (ODA) and the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife. The opening now extends from the Columbia River to Cascade Head, making mussel harvesting open from the Washington border down to the California border.
However, razor clamming remains closed from Cape Blanco south to the California border. It is still permitted between the Columbia River and Cape Blanco. Bay clamming and bay crabbing are open throughout the entire Oregon coastline.
The ODA will continue weekly testing for shellfish toxins as conditions allow. Areas previously closed due to biotoxins can only reopen after two consecutive tests show toxin levels below closure limits. For information on recreational license requirements, permits, rules, and limits, individuals should contact the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife.
For more details or updates on shellfish safety, members of the public can call ODA’s shellfish biotoxin safety hotline at (800) 448-2474 or reach out to their Food Safety Shellfish Desk at (503) 986-4726.
