Crews are set to begin upgrading curb ramps on U.S. 20 in Sisters, Oregon, to comply with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards. The work is part of the Bend and Sisters Curb Ramps Project.

Construction will start the evening of Sunday, September 28, focusing first on curb ramps at West Rail Way and Barclay Drive. Work is scheduled overnight from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. to minimize daytime traffic disruptions. Residents and businesses in the area should expect nighttime construction noise and temporary lane closures during these hours.

The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) encourages community members to visit its website for more information and to sign up for weekly updates about construction activity.

“We understand that construction can be inconvenient and appreciate your patience as we work to make our transportation system safer and more accessible for everyone,” ODOT stated.

ODOT also addressed concerns regarding its current funding challenges. While the agency’s maintenance and operations are significantly affected by a funding crisis, most construction projects—including this one—are expected to continue as planned because they are funded through separate capital programs with state or federal funds restricted by law for project development. However, ODOT cautioned that delays could occur if staffing levels drop further, as fewer employees would be available for inspections, coordination, and oversight.

For additional details about ODOT’s funding situation, the public is directed to visit the agency’s website.
