Nighttime construction will soon begin on U.S. 20 in Bend as crews work to upgrade curb ramps and pedestrian crossings between NE Arnett Way and NE Dalton Street. The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) announced that these improvements are designed to ensure compliance with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards, aiming to make it easier and safer for pedestrians and those using mobility devices.

To reduce the impact on daytime traffic, most of the construction will occur at night from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., Sunday through Friday. ODOT stated that during this period, residents can expect crews working overnight, increased noise, sidewalk and lane closures, flaggers managing traffic, minimal delays, and nightly left-turn restrictions at NE Azure Drive with signed detours for up to eight weeks.

The agency emphasized safety in work zones: “Pay attention in work zones, slow down and move over – imagine this is where you work! Always drive safely, watch for construction signs and workers.”

ODOT also reminded drivers: “Remember that fines double in all Oregon work zones, whether workers and signs are present or not.”

Construction schedules may change due to weather conditions. For updated information about road closures or traffic impacts, ODOT encourages people to visit TripCheck.com or call 5-1-1.

For more details about ongoing projects in the region or translation services related to ADA Title II or Civil Rights Title VI accommodations, ODOT provides contact options including TTY (800) 735-2900 or the statewide Oregon Relay Service at 7-1-1.
