Nissan announced on Apr. 19 the unveiling of its third-generation Juke, which will be available as an electric vehicle for the first time. The announcement was made at Nissan’s Vision event, where the company showcased the new model’s distinct exterior design in a video posted to its YouTube page.
The introduction of an electric version of a popular model like the Juke marks a significant shift for Nissan as it aims to revitalize its lineup and appeal to environmentally conscious drivers. The Juke EV is expected to launch in spring 2027, potentially building on the success of previous models that have attracted about 1.5 million European drivers since their debut in 2010.
Jordi Vila, vice president of Nissan Europe, said at the event: “The Juke is not only disruptive from a style standpoint, but it’s also very interesting, very fun to drive.” While specific technical details have not yet been released by Nissan, reports indicate that the new Juke EV will use the same platform as Nissan’s latest Leaf electric vehicle. For reference, this platform supports two powertrain options—a 52 kWh and a 75 kWh lithium-ion battery—providing up to an estimated 386 miles of range per charge for similar vehicles.
One confirmed feature is vehicle-to-grid technology that enables owners to store energy in their car’s battery and return it back to the grid when needed. This innovation has already received positive feedback from potential users; one commenter said: “Woo-hoo! I hope every new EV starts including this.”
As fuel prices remain high and interest in electric vehicles grows due to lower maintenance needs and reduced fueling costs, industry observers see this move as timely for both consumers and Nissan’s broader strategy.
