We’re making progress at the Aurora-Donald interchange at Exit 278.

The on-ramp to northbound I-5 will close today, July 20, starting at 8 p.m. The ramp is being lowered by four to eight feet to meet the new elevation. Cars will detour using Ehlen Road NE to OR 551 and then use the I-5 on-ramp heading to Wilsonville. Semi-trucks will detour using the southbound on-ramp at the Aurora-Donald interchange and take Exit 271 in Woodburn to get on northbound I-5. The closure is expected to last about 14 days.

Drivers are reminded to slow down in the work zone as construction equipment will be moving in and out of the area, often using the far left lane.

Crews will work daily from Sunday through Thursday with occasional night and weekend work. Up to two lanes may be closed nightly in either direction on I-5 as needed from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m., with other roads having single lane closures as needed from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Speed limits in the work zone are reduced to 55 mph, and drivers should expect construction noise and delays.

Funding for this project comes from separate capital programs, typically state or federal funds legally restricted for project development, which cannot be redirected for maintenance or day-to-day operations.

Delays may occur due to a reduced workforce impacting traffic control, inspections, and project oversight. More information on ODOT’s funding crisis can be found on their website.

Fines double in all Oregon work zones regardless of whether workers or signs are present.
