We’re making progress at the Aurora-Donald interchange at Exit 278.
The northbound I-5 on-ramp closure will start at 8 p.m. on Sunday, July 20. The ramp is being lowered by four to eight feet to meet the new elevation.
Cars will detour using Ehlen Road NE to OR 551 and use the I-5 on-ramp heading to Wilsonville. Semi-trucks will detour using the southbound on-ramp at the Aurora-Donald interchange and take Exit 271 in Woodburn to get on northbound I-5. The closure is expected to last for about 14 days.
“Our construction equipment is moving in and out of the area, often using the far left lane – avoid using this in the work zone.”
Other impacts include:
Crews working daily from Sunday through Thursday with occasional night and weekend work. Up to two lanes may be closed nightly in either direction on I-5 as needed from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. Other roads in the project area may have single lane closures as needed from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., with reduced speed limits of 55 mph in the work zone.
Construction noise and delays are expected, so caution is advised when driving through these areas due to grooves in the pavement along the median shoulder.
While ODOT’s funding crisis affects maintenance and operations, most construction projects continue as planned since they are funded through separate capital programs with state or federal funds that cannot be redirected for maintenance or day-to-day operations.
Delays may occur due to a reduced workforce impacting traffic control, inspections, and project oversight timelines.
“Pay attention in work zones, slow down and move over – imagine this is where you work.” Fines double in all Oregon work zones whether workers or signs are present or not.
