Due to expected rain, the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) has delayed the planned closure of northbound OR 217 for paving work. The closure will now begin at 5:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 16, instead of Friday night, and is scheduled to reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, August 18.

This marks the fifth and final weekend directional closure as part of the Auxiliary Lanes Project. The affected section is the same northbound stretch that was closed last weekend for similar work.

ODOT stated that paving and striping are subject to weather conditions and equipment availability, so plans may change again if necessary. “Please check Tripcheck.com for current travel and closure information on Oregon highways. You can also sign up for email updates on the project website,” ODOT advised.

During this closure, all northbound traffic will be required to exit OR 217 at OR 99W. Several ramps will also be closed in both directions:
– OR 99W on-ramps
– Greenburg Road off-ramp
– Greenburg Road on-ramp
– Scholls Ferry Road off-ramp

Drivers are encouraged to use Interstate 5 through Portland, Interstate 405, and U.S. 26 as alternative routes during the closure period.

Despite ongoing funding challenges affecting maintenance and operations at ODOT, most major projects like this one are moving forward because they rely on state or federal funds that are legally set aside for specific project development purposes rather than general maintenance or daily operations.
