The Oregon Department of Transportation announced on March 20 that drivers should expect up to 15-minute delays on OR 58 between mileposts 37 and 38, just east of Oakridge, as crews begin removing hazardous, fire-damaged trees. The work is scheduled from Monday, March 23 through Friday, April 3, with crews operating Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The project addresses trees damaged during the August 2025 Aubrey Mountain Fire that remain unstable on the steep hillside above the highway. Removing these trees aims to reduce the risk of falling debris and improve safety for travelers.
Traffic will be stopped intermittently in both directions to allow crews to safely remove large trees. Drivers are advised to watch for flaggers and follow their directions for safety. Heavy equipment and a helicopter will be used during the operation, and travelers may notice increased activity in the area due to equipment staging and aerial operations.
The Oregon Department of Transportation is partnering with the U.S. Forest Service, Union Pacific Railroad, and a local contractor to complete this work. The agency urges motorists to drive cautiously through the work zone and plan extra travel time.
Removing unstable trees after wildfire events is an important step in maintaining road safety in affected areas. The collaboration among state agencies and partners highlights ongoing efforts to address hazards left by wildfires.
