OR 99E will be closed under the Abernethy Bridge in Oregon City for two nights to allow for girder installation as part of the I-205 Abernethy Bridge Project. The closures are scheduled from 10 p.m. Thursday, January 8, to 5 a.m. Friday, January 9, and again from 10 p.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Saturday.
During these times, drivers will be rerouted onto Interstate 205 and are advised to plan for additional travel time. Pedestrians and cyclists will be guided through the area but may experience short delays.
The girder installation is part of a larger effort to upgrade the Abernethy Bridge, which crosses the Willamette River between Oregon City and West Linn. The project aims to make the bridge more resilient in case of a major earthquake and includes improvements such as realigning on- and off-ramps near the bridge and creating new routes for bikes and pedestrians. Completion is expected by late 2026.
Project officials note that closure dates may change due to weather or unforeseen circumstances, and they encourage checking the project website for updates.
“Plan extra time into your trip,” advises the release regarding detours during construction.
