Daytime lane closures and delays are set to begin August 13 on Oregon 47 between Yamhill and Carlton as crews apply a scrub seal to the roadway. The work, which is dependent on weather conditions, aims to preserve the road and extend its lifespan.

During this project, drivers should expect loose gravel on the road until a fog seal is completed. Signs warning of “loose gravel” and advising “do not pass” will remain in place during this period. Motorists are urged to slow down, use caution in the work zone, and allow extra space between vehicles.

Bicycle riders should be prepared for sections of highway covered with rock chips and will need to travel behind a pilot car. Loose gravel may remain on the roadway for several days after the operation.

According to ODOT, “Scrub seal applications help protect and extend the life of the existing road and provide a smooth ride.”

Travelers can check TripCheck.com or call 511 for current road and construction updates.

While ODOT faces significant challenges due to its ongoing funding crisis, most construction projects like this one will continue because they are funded through separate programs with state or federal funds that are legally restricted for project development. These funds cannot be used for maintenance or daily operations. More information about ODOT’s funding situation is available on their website.
