Oregon state agencies are moving forward with plans to support the electrification of medium- and heavy-duty vehicle fleets. The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) and the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) will host a joint webinar on December 3 to discuss financial incentives and infrastructure deployment for electric vehicles.
The event is aimed at fleet operators across Oregon, regardless of whether they currently use electric vehicles or are considering future adoption. According to the announcement, “Join staff from the Oregon Departments of Transportation and Environmental Quality for a joint webinar Dec. 3 about DEQ’s Clean Fuels Program incentives and ODOT’s public fleet EV charging station deployment plans. You’ll also have a chance to ask questions and share your feedback.”
The webinar will take place from 10-11 a.m. via Zoom, with registration required in advance. Accommodations can be arranged by contacting Nikolah Bonnett or using statewide relay services at least 72 hours before the meeting.
ODOT’s portion of the presentation will focus on its early-stage plans for deploying public EV charging stations along Interstates 5 and 84. The agency has secured federal grant funding for planning, design, and installation but notes that it does not own or operate these stations directly. Funding is limited to infrastructure work and cannot be used for other ODOT operations or maintenance.
During the session, ODOT staff will provide an overview of their current plans and seek input from attendees: “At the webinar, ODOT staff will give an overview of their plans for the public fleet EV charging stations on both roads and ask for feedback from attendees.”
DEQ representatives will outline how their Clean Fuels Program offers financial incentives through advance crediting, allowing fleets to receive upfront credits when introducing new electric vehicles into service. This program aims to reduce costs associated with adopting medium- or heavy-duty EVs in Oregon: “The financial incentives allow fleets to get an up-front loan of Clean Fuels Program credits when they put a new medium- or heavy- duty electric vehicle into service. This helps lower the cost of these new electric vehicles and gets more of them on the roads in Oregon.” DEQ is seeking feedback ahead of opening its application process next year.
