The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) has announced the completion of the OR 99W and Clow Corner Road roundabout project. Construction crews have finished their work, and all construction signs, cones, and reduced speed limits have been removed. The roundabout has been open to traffic for several weeks.

ODOT thanked the public for its patience during the project. “Thank you for your patience while we worked to make this intersection safer for all users!” ODOT stated.

The department provided information about how to navigate the new roundabout. Regular vehicles are not permitted to drive through the center; this area is reserved for oversized semi trucks that have obtained a special permit from ODOT. The design also accommodates farm equipment commonly used by local farms.

For drivers unfamiliar with roundabouts, ODOT offered guidance based on the Oregon Driver Manual: motorists should slow down when approaching, yield to traffic already in the roundabout, allow bicyclists full use of travel lanes within the circle, signal before exiting, and watch for pedestrians at crosswalks.

Emergency vehicle protocols were also outlined. Drivers are advised not to enter a roundabout if an emergency vehicle is approaching and to pull over after exiting so emergency vehicles can pass.

Pedestrian access is provided at all corners of the intersection, and there is a connection to a multiuse path on the west side of the roundabout. Bicyclists may choose either to use pedestrian crossings or travel through the roundabout with traffic.

ODOT reminded drivers that fines double in all Oregon work zones regardless of whether workers or signs are present. Access through or around work zones will be available for pedestrians, including those with disabilities.

More information about ongoing projects in surrounding communities can be found on ODOT’s interactive map via their webpage. For road conditions and traffic alerts throughout Oregon, residents can visit TripCheck.com or call 5-1-1.

Individuals seeking ADA Title II or Civil Rights Title VI accommodations or translation services are encouraged to contact ODOT using TTY (800) 735-2900 or Oregon Relay Service: 7-1-1. Employment opportunities at ODOT are listed at ODOTJobs.com.
