Winter is approaching in Oregon, and the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) is taking steps to address staffing shortages ahead of the season. The agency announced it is actively recruiting for maintenance positions across the state.

The move comes as ODOT prepares for challenging weather conditions and responds to new funding made available through House Bill 3991. This bill will provide additional resources for road maintenance, allowing the agency to fill vacancies that have accumulated due to a recent hiring freeze implemented as a cost-saving measure.

“These factors, along with a hiring freeze to save money, have left hundreds of positions vacant as the agency heads into winter,” ODOT stated.

ODOT’s efforts include hiring both permanent and seasonal workers, particularly snowplow drivers who are essential during periods of heavy snowfall. The department emphasized its commitment to maintaining safe roads throughout the winter months.

Interested applicants can find more information about available positions by contacting ODOT representatives or visiting their official website.
