The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) has announced the availability of new resources to assist newsrooms and reporters in covering winter weather conditions. With snow expected in several parts of the state this weekend, ODOT is preparing both staff and equipment for the upcoming season.
ODOT’s Winter Travel Tips page provides answers to common questions about winter travel. The department has released a Winter Travel News Packet that includes information on topics such as responding to black ice, recommended items for car emergency kits, parking guidelines at recreation areas, and how ODOT prioritizes plowing during storms. Other included stories cover topics like ODOT’s storm response tools, advice on practicing tire chaining before icy conditions occur, and potential hazards that can follow a winter storm.
Each story in the packet contains summaries and additional details. There are also links to downloadable materials including b-roll footage, photos, graphics, and suggestions for social media content relevant to winter weather coverage.
The packet offers contact information for local ODOT public information officers as well as links to ODOT’s social media accounts and instructions for subscribing to Flash Alerts.
