The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) has announced it will resume work on the second half of its ADA curb ramp project in Lincoln City starting September 15. The construction will take place between Salishan Hills Drive and NE West Devils Lake Road.
According to ODOT, crews will be working during the day from Monday through Thursday, with some work scheduled for Fridays and at night as needed. Drivers can expect shoulder and lane closures, traffic delays managed by flaggers, and construction noise due to concrete cutting. All lanes are expected to remain open on weekends, and businesses in the area will stay open during construction.
ODOT emphasized the importance of ADA curb ramps, stating that they make it easier for people to move between sidewalks and roads. “ADA curb ramps make it easier for people to move between the sidewalk and road. This can be helpful for those who have trouble stepping up and down high curbs. It’s also helpful for people using wheelchairs, strollers, walkers, hand carts and bicycles,” according to the agency. “By making curb ramps gently slope to the road, it improves accessibility and makes it easier for everyone to get around, whether they have a disability or not.”
Despite a funding crisis affecting maintenance and operations at ODOT, most projects like this one are continuing because they are funded through separate state or federal programs with funds legally restricted to project development. More information about ODOT’s funding situation is available on their website: https://www.oregon.gov/odot/pages/index.aspx.
Residents can follow updates about this project and other local construction efforts by visiting ODOT’s interactive map: https://www.oregon.gov/odot/projects/pages/default.aspx.
ODOT urges drivers to use caution in work zones, noting that fines double in all Oregon work zones regardless of whether workers or signs are present.
