Oregon legislators began their short legislative session on February 2, introducing more than 200 new bills. The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) is monitoring over 100 proposals that could affect small businesses in the state.

Anthony Smith, NFIB State Director, identified five bills as especially significant for small business owners. These include federal tax conformity, wage claim liability, the Workers’ Benefit Fund tax, expanded insurance lawsuits, and labor standards boards.

Smith encouraged business owners to contact their elected officials about legislation impacting their operations. “Lawmakers take constituent stories into consideration when voting on legislation. Make your voice heard!” he said.

NFIB has provided links for business owners to share their opinions on individual issues or address all at once. Smith emphasized that personalized messages can be more effective: “A personalized message gets the attention of lawmakers. If you have an extra moment, share how the legislation might impact your ability to own, operate, and grow your business.”

The organization is focused on advocating for policies that support small businesses during this legislative period.
