The Oregon men’s golf team finished the opening round of the 79th Western Intercollegiate in ninth place after shooting a 10-over-par 360 on Monday, Apr. 13, at Pasatiempo Golf Club in Santa Cruz, California.

This tournament marks an important event for college golf teams, with each lineup fielding six players and counting the five lowest scores toward the team’s total. The Ducks’ performance places them among a competitive field led by California at seven under par, followed by UNLV and Stanford.

Freshman Sebastian Desoisa led Oregon with an even-par 70, marking his thirteenth par-or-better round out of twenty-four this season. Desoisa recovered from being two over through three holes to finish strong with three birdies on the back nine. Aiden Krafft and Ramil Saelim both posted scores of two-over-par 72, while Casper Nerpin and Jeffrey Kwak each carded three-over-par rounds of 73 to complete Oregon’s scoring for the day.

Nerpin made one of only five eagles recorded during the opening round across all players in the field. His eagle came at the par-5 ninth hole and was his fourth this season as well as his eleventh during his career at Oregon.

Oregon is scheduled to begin play in Tuesday’s second round at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time. Live coverage will be available starting at 4:00 p.m. on Golf Channel.
