Oregon Secretary of State Tobias Read said on April 21 that the deadline to register to vote in the upcoming statewide election is April 28, which is one week away. This date is also the last day for voters to update their existing registration or declare a political party in order to participate in closed primary races.

The reminder comes as Oregonians prepare for this year’s statewide elections. The voter registration process allows residents to have a say in who represents them and how state issues are decided.

To be eligible, individuals must be U.S. citizens, Oregon residents, and at least 16 years old—though only those who are at least 18 can cast a ballot. Registration or updates can be completed online at OregonVotes.gov or by visiting local county elections offices. Prospective voters registering online will need documentation such as an Oregon driver’s license number or the last four digits of their Social Security Number to help verify eligibility.

Read said, “Voting is how Oregonians hold politicians accountable, weigh-in on important issues, and decide the direction of our state.” He added, “Oregon’s vote-by-mail elections are safe, accurate, and fair, and it only takes minutes to register and be a part of the democratic process.”

Voters must affirm under penalty of law that they meet all requirements and that information provided on their forms is true. In addition to these reminders about registration deadlines and requirements, the Secretary of State’s Office has released its official 2026 Elections Toolkit—a set of civic education materials available at OregonVotes.gov/toolkit—to help inform every eligible voter ahead of this year’s Primary and General elections.
