Oregon State Track and Field will participate in the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa, starting April 23. The event begins Friday with pole vault at 9:00 a.m. Pacific Time and continues through Saturday with various events scheduled for Oregon State athletes.
The meet is an opportunity for Oregon State’s athletes to compete against other collegiate teams and gain experience in a variety of events. The schedule includes both track and field competitions, such as relays, pole vault, shot put, discus, high jump, javelin, and hammer throw.
Friday’s events feature Mia Fowler and Claire Lee in the pole vault at 9:00 a.m., followed by Ruby Broadbent, Jillian Brown, Kate Laurent, and Ainsley Herron competing in the 4×1600 meter relay at 9:45 a.m. Bea Pettersson will participate in shot put at 11:45 a.m., while Megan Hatcher runs the 400-meter hurdles shortly after noon. Katie Gelston is set for the discus championships later that afternoon.
Saturday’s schedule starts with Lexi Hunt competing in high jump at 10:00 a.m., Havana Alonso participating in javelin at 10:30 a.m., and another relay team taking part in the distance medley relay just after. Additional events include the women’s high jump championship featuring Dede Norman as well as Bea Pettersson returning for hammer throw.
Some athletes are listed as competing unattached (UA), meaning they are not using collegiate eligibility nor are they eligible for school records or top-10 lists during this meet. Oregon State Athletics says its mission is to “Build Excellent Authentic Visionary Student-Athletes (Go BEAVS).”
The Drake Relays provide student-athletes from Oregon State with valuable competition experience heading into future meets.
