Storms continue to impact roads throughout Oregon, with ongoing challenges expected for travelers as the weekend approaches. Flooding, downed trees, debris, landslides, and mountain snow are all contributing to hazardous and unpredictable travel conditions across the state. Forecasts indicate that more rain and snow are likely in the coming days.

Crews from the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) are working around the clock statewide. Their efforts include clearing fallen trees and debris, unclogging drains and culverts, responding to flooding incidents, and plowing or sanding mountain passes. ODOT reports that resources are being prioritized for storm response and keeping critical routes open where possible.

Travelers should anticipate closures, detours, and delays—especially in flood-prone areas along rivers and over mountain passes. Conditions can change rapidly as water levels rise or fall, which may result in further road closures if flooding or debris becomes severe. Some traffic signals remain without power; drivers are reminded to treat intersections with dark signals as four-way stops.

High river levels have also disrupted drawbridge operations throughout Oregon. Additional drawbridge lifts are expected over several days, leading to unplanned traffic delays.

ODOT is asking travelers to take precautions to avoid becoming stranded or blocking roadways during this period of increased risk. The agency advises making sure vehicles are prepared for winter weather by carrying required traction devices—and using them when needed—allowing extra travel time, and postponing non-essential trips if possible. Unprepared drivers could impede emergency response efforts during a resource-intensive situation.

Cyclists and pedestrians face additional hazards due to flooded paths, debris on walkways, low visibility conditions, and power outages. ODOT recommends heightened awareness: “Be alert, use lights and reflective gear, and avoid areas with standing water or closures.”

“Travelers can find the latest road conditions, closures, traffic cameras and weather information at TripCheck.com,” according to ODOT officials. Real-time updates—including photos and video—are available through this service at https://tripcheck.com/.
