The Oregon track and field team collected five victories and a top-10 program performance on April 17 during the opening day of the Oregon Team Invitational at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon. Freshman Greyson Glivinski led the way by winning the javelin event with a personal best throw, while other wins came from Silan Ayyildiz in the 800 meters, Dalia Frias in the 1500 meters, Alicia Khunou in shot put, and Ben Smith in discus.

These results highlight a strong start for Oregon athletes as they compete against regional opponents. The meet provides an opportunity for both seasoned competitors and newcomers to demonstrate their progress early in the outdoor season.

Glivinski achieved her second win of the season with a lifetime-best mark of 51.53 meters (169-0) in javelin, which moved her to eighth place all-time among University of Oregon performers. She was joined by teammate Hayden Williams-Downing who finished second with a throw of 47.04 meters (154-4). In mid-distance events, Ayyildiz won her outdoor season debut in the women’s 800 meters with a time of 2:05.39, holding off professional runners Christina Aragon and Maddie Mooney. Frias recorded a personal best of 4:17.13 to take first place in the women’s 1500 meters.

In field events, Khunou secured victory in shot put after leading throughout competition and finishing with her best attempt at 15.48 meters (50-9.5). Smith claimed his second discus win this season after moving into first place on his third attempt with a throw measuring 57.94 meters (190-1). Both Smith and Kobe Lawrence are set to compete again Saturday.

Other notable performances included Diana Cherotich finishing runner-up in the women’s invitational 5,000-meter race with a time of 15:43.97; Titouan Bizet placing fifth and Dakorien Moore sixth in men’s long jump—Moore making his debut for track after playing football for UO.

Day two will begin at Hayward Field with men’s hammer throw at 3:45 p.m., followed by javelin at 4:45 p.m., while Big Ten Network coverage starts at 5:30 p.m.
