Portland State University announced on April 17 that it will host the Portland Fire, a Women’s National Basketball Association franchise, for its inaugural training camp. The university is serving as the Official Higher Education Partner of the Portland Fire and will provide primary practice facilities until the Kaiser Permanente Performance Center is completed later this year.

This partnership brings professional women’s basketball to the heart of downtown Portland and highlights PSU’s involvement in supporting athletics and community engagement.

“Having the Portland Fire on campus is exciting for Portland State and for our student-athletes,” said PSU President Ann Cudd. “We share the belief that Portland is an epicenter for women’s sports, and we are thrilled to be a part of the early days of Portland’s next great athletics team.”

The Portland Fire, owned by RAJ Sports, will make its official debut in 2026. The team aims to honor the legacy of the original franchise while establishing a new presence in women’s sports. According to information released by PSU, this collaboration reflects both organizations’ commitment to resilience and passion for sport in Rose City.

Training camp will take place at PSU from April 19 through April 22. The Fire’s first season game is scheduled for May 9 at Moda Center against Chicago Sky.
