A Portland resident has admitted to setting fire to the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) building in South Portland. Trenten Edward Barker, 34, pleaded guilty to arson of a federal building.

Court documents state that on June 11, 2025, several individuals built a barricade of large objects and debris against the vehicle gate at the ICE facility to block law enforcement officers from leaving. Barker then took a flare from his backpack and threw it onto the barricade, which started a fire.

Barker was formally charged with arson of a federal building on October 22, 2025. He now faces up to 20 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, and three years of supervised release. Sentencing is scheduled for March 4, 2026 before a U.S. District Court Judge.

The investigation involved the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Portland Police Bureau. The case is being prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Oregon.
